STAR House & Better World Books Community Book Drive

Thanks to the Community

STAR House Foundation and Better World Books joined forces for a community wide book drive that benefited at-risk students in Roswell. During the month of March, residents, businesses, schools and civic clubs cleaned out their basements and bookshelves to support the effort. All seven fire stations in Roswell, University of Phoenix, the Ed Isakson Alpharetta YMCA and many local businesses put the drop off bins in their lobbies.

Thanks to the Roswell Fire Stations

The competition got fierce between Roswell firemen throughout the city. Each station hoped to be the one to collect the most books. When the counting was finished, over 200 large boxes of books were loaded onto a truck to go to the distribution/sales center for Better World Books. These books will be sold online with a portion of the proceeds going to the STAR House Foundation. The books that do not sell will be donated to worthy charities — many times overseas.

Thanks to Fire Chief Ricky Spencer

On Monday night, April 25,STAR House made a presentation to Fire Chief Ricky Spencer in appreciation of the support received for this project. “If you missed out donating books this year, hang on to them!” stated Michelle Newton, Executive Director of STAR House. “We hope to make this an annual event!”
